Fine Art by Claudia Doherty
About the Artist
Claudia Doherty is a visual artist with work held in private collections around the world. Specializing in oils and acrylics, she is drawn to moody, earthy tones and subject matter that is both beautiful and bleak. She seeks to capture the poetry of a figure, an object, or a place— bringing depth and character to her work through texture, often scraping and layering paint to create a hard-scrabble look of imperfection.
Born in Boston and raised in New England, Claudia earned her BA in Economics from the University of New Hampshire before beginning a career in financial services. After the births of her three children, she began seriously pursuing art, studying under established local artists such as Eli Cedrone.
Claudia’s work has been featured in multiple juried exhibitions, including selections by the Cambridge Art Association and two Cape Cod Museum of Art shows: "Why Cape Cod?" and "Dreamscapes & Inner Worlds". Most recently, her piece was selected for the Museum's annual International Exhibition, where only 81 artworks were chosen from a record-setting 725 submissions. Her portfolio also includes a two-month solo gallery in Burlington, MA supported by UpNext, and curated pop-ups in local shops and West Elm stores.
She currently paints from her studio in Newton Corner and sells work at puck and abby retail store in Concord, MA, online, through exhibitions, and by commission. Her inspiration is rooted in places she’s lived, including Boston, Cape Cod, London, Tokyo, and Hong Kong.
